Does anybody besides me think this can be a problem? I'm referring to wechat, texting, phone calls, social websites, tweets, a million photos of self or other, videos of people doing ordinary things, phone sales, constant music, realtime communication of whatever, obsessive fact-checking etc. etc. ad nauseum.
Then there's ad tracking, profiling, spying, credit info etc., much of which seems to accompany the above.
“The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which he has attained liberation from the self.”
-Albert Einstein, 1934
16 years later, Einstein goes on to say in ways similar to the teachings of Buddhism...
“A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. The striving to free oneself from this delusion is the one issue of true religion. Not to nourish it but to try to overcome it is the way to reach the attainable measure of peace of mind.”
In short,
Einstein would've agreed with you in the disapproval of the selfie generation.
since you ask,,in some circumstances yes.
take as an example yer response to some guy who desperately wants a suit,,desperate enough to've considered vietnam, hk. no wonder someone took exception.
I am beginning to get a bit peed off with people in public places using FaceTime or streaming video without using earphones.
Imagine state of being (not necessarily of humans) where each individual is constantly fully aware of everything that happens with and/or in vicinity of every other individual.
A collective hive-mind in the sense of Borg or whatever your favourite imaginary aliens are.
Are we in rudimentary steps toward that direction?
Is that direction wrong to begin with, or are we just so limited beings (technologically and biologically), that we cannot efficiently enough filter the information relevant to each individual from all that noise?
Question is: are we talking about communication or the creation of wallpaper?
Hive mind scenario would be hell. I seem to remember another race on Star Trek, where the Enterprise visits a planet of telepaths. They had to learn to not hear, in order to hear anything, and perhaps stay sane.
Rather like the old habit in supermarkets of every promotion gang turning their loud hailers / TV /recorded messages up to full blast. Absolute shopping hell.
information collection, ( social media, GPS location, emails, phonecalls, microphone recordings, camera recordings, bank card, travel, medical records, school records etc. ) followed by satellite tracking with voice to skull targetting? its real.
