Can anybody recommend a good place/photographer to have some professional shots done of family. Don't like anything too posed or cheesy if possible!

Most camera and photo shops do this. Most are very good, the advantage with digital is that it is easy to take another shot instantly. They will also do the usual photoshop tricks with lights and color density, and then print them on the spot. The shots are usually done in front of a backdrop on the premises. They are not expensive. If you see a Kodak shop, they will often have some facility for simple portraits, if not I am sure that they have a 'friend' they can refer you to.

The pro photo places are also very common and usually specialize in weddings. They will have certificates from some fancy photo school on the wall. They will take the subjects out on location with a photo team, costumes and treat them like royalty. These are expensive and they will try and up-sell you on everything.
