Anybody got a bead on a pair of size 46 slippers that doesn't involve the trek down to Luosiwan?

Hey there Eric... Being in an exciting new country like China is an adventure, fun. We are networking together to find stuff, that's all. We aren't complaining.

Daniel S... Ha, that is my size too, I think 45 is the largest standard size in China. My way to work around this is that I know of a terrific shoe repair shop guy near where I live, Jin Se Da Dao. I shop around for some nice shoes, slippers, leather coat, anything, and go to him. He cuts in and adds leather, etc. as needed and presto, a perfect fit.

I have a question... Whatever happened to the great Toastmasters group that used to meet on Wednesday evenings on 121 Street. I went there this past week and it was gone.

Esther> If you are Scandinavian and looking for dark bread similar to back home you won't find it in Metro. I've seen stuff there labelled rye bread but it's not any good. On the other hand I am fairly sure they have balsamico but it's definitely not cheap.

Good suggestion about getting shoes altered.

The box used to have red lentils for sale in their display case. Not sure if they still do, but I bet you can get them through the parent company, Sapore Italia: www.saporeitalia.com.cn/

Has any one ever found whole wheat pasta in kunming? i have looked in a lot of places for it and really wish i could get some.

I saw some Balsamic vinegar at Walmart today. Saw some fish sauce and Camomile tea too....

We get wholemeal organic but we have to go direct to the farmer in Guizhou when we are there. I have no idea when we will return.

I think you can get whole meal bread four in Metro. If it is not whole meal, at least it will be course flour. You could then make your own, dead easy with a pasta machine.

Where can I find these things? They are all for desserts:
sodium bicarbonate
vanilla
tahini
margarine
soy cream
