There is no gainsaying,learning english is very important.Firstly,the school arranges english lessons,we must pass the exam.secondly,we can communicate with foreigners well,thus,learning about foreign cultures and spreading out the culture of china.Now,a lot of information is in english.If We want to learn advanced technology abroad,we need to learn english.
It is become more convenient for us to watch foreign films,we can understand the most primitive foreign culture.
In a word,learning english can help us to live and work better.

Ah,if you ask me why should we learn English ?Interests 、Curriculum needs or others,none of them.To be honest,I really don't think about it deeply.For me ,I haven't get up early to remember new words,even do reading more.So if I will tell you many reasons about learning English,it must be the pieced together words,maybe I use the new words I have learned today.Fortunately I have a simple story about it.My younger female cousin studying in Lijiang ,she order at pizza hut as her part-time job.Lijiang is a tourist attraction,there will be so many tourists,of course foreigners.Compared to other clerks,my younger female cousin is more welcomed by boss,just because she can speak English.When the restaurant is busy,boss usually calls her to arrive quickly,you can imagine how is she exciting.Above all,maybe I find a reason about learning English ,just because we can order for foreigners.But do you know,when we can simply fill someone's stomach,we also can talk about more ,interests、books、sports and so on.Oh,it's so amazing.another reasons that why should we learn English,I will find out all the time.That's all,thank you.

First,learning English well is a good skill.In order to open ours eyes,we can read English books and watch English movies.so,we must learn many English words and useful expressions.Second,learning English well means we can know about their countries' culture by talking with them.Third,if we want to travel around the world,we should learn spoken English first.

In my point of view, it is advisable for everyone to study English, especially for youngsters.

With so many young Chinese speaking English why not stand out from the crowd and learn something different? French, Spanish, Hindi and Arabic are huge languages in the world for now and more so in the future.

Any languages , you can speak it's a key for you to know another cultures another nations another knowledges , so if we can speak more languages so we will be more open to the world than others speak less languages or only one ... ( but english must important because it's universal and you can find English speakers anywhere in te universe.)

@Geezer Homework assignment? Yes. But a change from listening to experts.It would be good to hear the dissenting voices from this class that undoubtedly exist. But what chance of that with the teacher watching? Is he or she prepared to accept the work from a student with a mind of their own?
My view; lots of positives but in the past English has consumed inordinate resources all round. And, as mentioned earlier in this thread, there are other languages important to this region.

@nnoble I agree, especially about the consumption of resources. I have maintained contact with several students from years ago. Most have forgotten most of the English learned unless they a reason to continue using English. A few said other than dinner a couple of times a year with me, they never had a chance to speak English.

I have a lot of respect for Chinese who make the effort to become fluent in English but it is sad when 10 years on, a lot of it is gone.
