I've just arrived here in Kunming to work and I'm interested in buying an e-bike.. the kind that is permitted to ride within the 2nd ring. Where is a good place to purchase one and how much are they usually?

xichang rd. north of huancheng south road. big ebike market lots of companies selling. you can't miss it as it is on the road side. price from about 2500 for budget, 5000 for nice scooter, and more. but remember it will probably get stolen so don't bust the bank.

After you buy the bike make sure you have a GPS

installed by the police. Others here know what I'm talking about.

I haven't heard so many reports of e-bikes thefts since the GPS drive. Have others found the same?

Maybe theft in general is down with the culture drive and extra presence of safety officials?

I have installed a GPS from private company in my bike it costs 368 RRMB. Benefits
1. I have software installed and connected with my WeChat, so whenever I park my bike I lock it in software, if someone hits it or try to open it I get a call from software that someone in doing something with your bike,

2. I can always check the location of my bike by myself in software.

3. If my bike is stilen within one year its their responsibility to find it for me or pay me 3000 RMB.
