Christian missionaries in Kunming

There is no such thing as a soul, when we die then that's the end of it...

I can't beleive there are still missionaries in this modern day and age, but they do seem to be everywhere in Kunming don't they. In the meantime, take the missionary possition and call out the name of the lord!

Interesting enough this is how Wikipedia describes it: "The missionary position is a male-superior (man on top) sex position in which the woman lies on her back and the partners face each other"

Besizes the "love of money", religion is the root of all evil. Truly. Look what has happen because of it. Because of in the name of God, Jesus, Allah, Mohammond, blah, blah blah. No, we don't need religion.

I am curious about why you all seemed so threatened by Christians and why you feel the need to be so nasty and disrespectful?

I put in the word missionary on wikipedia SwedishGuy and a sexual position is not what came up. So how bout getting our facts straight before putting a bunch of garbage on here.

kunming7. The facts speak for themselves. Throughout history. Religion, both christian and non christian beliefs have been the cause of many wars and continue to be that way. I aslo see you have no sense of humor. If you don't like it, move on to another thread.

Yes, and so did many other ideologies, religions, etc. Let's be reasonable here!

I think, despite what anyone says missionaries DO help a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't receive any. Building schools, charity foundations, education, etc. are a large part of what they do.

However, I think most people take offense to the fact that many, at least *seem* to carry out these activities in the hopes that they'll reach eternal happiness in Heaven once they pass away...rather than helping people because they want to, and leaving the religious aspect out of it. I think the evangelism is what gets to a lot of people, and it seems a bit selfish in that sense.

That being said, I don't mind them as long as they don't bother me. Getting worked up over it is a waste of energy, and I only have so much to spare ;).

I'd like to refine what you said a little bit more. By its very nature, missionaries are there TO bother you. They are there to convert, that's their sole purpose. The building of schools, running water, indoor plumbing is for THEIR convenience, kinda like why are there Chinatowns everywhere. The second reason they do these things is because they need to infrastructure and facilities to do what they came to do, convert you. They give you hand-outs to make you feel all warm and gooey inside so that they can say, see what my god gave me, you should come over so that he can give you the same thing. By saving souls, they are ensuring their own souls receive eternal salvation.

I don't think people have a problem because they "hope" they'll reach eternal happiness. In fact, I would like them much better of all they do is "hope". Unfortunately they're not that passive. They actively and systematically tear away the foundation of the society of which they were in and rebuild it in an image of their liking.

The problem I have with Christianity in general is their arrogance in believe they are superior. It's not enough to say I believe in God, but you must also believe in God, and if you don't then you must die and deserve to have your country invaded and destroyed. The arrogance in I have certain beliefs and everyone else must believe in what I believe.

I wonder how these people against gay marriages and the theory of evolution feel if Buddhist start protesting the ALL marriages and the consumption of meat because it goes against their beliefs. Imagine the uproar if Buddhist somehow convinced a school district to go all vegan and not allow any animal and animal by-products and forced all students eat vegan during school hours.

Threatened? I don't feel threatened, I feel offended that you feel you are so superior over us that you can come to our country and demand that we give you special privileges so that can the tear away at the fabric of our society to further feed your superiority complex.

Before you protest and say that's not what you do, don't be delusional. Missionary means one with a mission. What is your mission? Is your mission to better the lives of your average Chinese person, or to convert them into believing in God? If you are really are altruistic and care for the well being of your fellow man, I say, leave your Bible and ideology behind and we'll welcome you with open arms.

Before you counter: Spirituality is part of well being, I'd say, there goes your arrogance again. You are assume these people have no spirituality and/or that yours is some how superior.

I can go on and on but this is already more then I had originally wanted to say.

**End Rant**
