UK Citizens Brexit referendum vote

Hillary maybe hated, possiblely crooked, but she's proven that as a US Senator and Secretary of State, she would be a boring run of the mill moderate left politician. With Trump, you get a complete wildcard with no viable plans after, like what happened in Brexit.

Back on topicish, Scots staying or leaving?

Perhaps nothing much happens in America:

Trees dying in Kunming thread: Yes, but Hilary Clinton blah blah blah, Donald Trump blah, blah, blah.

Brits leave the Eurozone: Yes, but Hilary Clinton blah blah blah, Donald Trump blah, blah, blah.

Chinese minister press conference in Canada thread: Yes, but Hilary Clinton blah blah blah, Donald Trump blah, blah, blah.

Hi, I'm new here. Can anyone recommend a good gym?: Yes, but Hilary Clinton blah blah blah, Donald Trump blah, blah, blah.

It really does border on the ridiculous with our American members.

Carry on; don't let the name GoKuming or the forum title Living in Kunming put you off.

Credit to the Europeans; this thread could have seen heavy traffic. Germans (I won't say who) shouting at Brits and Dutch shouting at Fins. However, they all realised that perhaps there were better mediums, that it was very unlikely to effect what they eat for breakfast in Kunming and it would be tedious for anyone outside of that sphere, something lost on the Yanks.

Actually, Americans are screwed. The choice is between a left leaning crook and a formerly left leaning narcissistic conman fraud who bullies and blusters his way.

Don't be impressed with his claims of wealth. His father started him off with $1 million and he inherited over $100 million. Most of his claims relating to his wealth are fabrications. He admits the valuation of his assets are largely based on his "feelings."

His knowledge of macro economics, despite his degree from Wharton, is so lacking he should be embarrassed. No doubt he gets the buzz words from Larry Kudlow but fails to express any remotely coherent economic policies.

Trump is not a Conservative. Most of his half idiotic utterings are progressive mixed with nonsense he thinks are conservative. He is an isolationist. He slanders detractors from the right and left but offers no substantial plans other than making good deals and managing things.

He is anti First Amendment (free speech) and was anti Second Amendment (guns). He is a Mercantilist and anti Free Trade. Most his stated solutions imply he has no understanding of the US Constitution.

Do not think he is on the right as his long history has been financially supporting progressive and leftist causes.

He pays little or no income taxes. He claims he donate huge sums to charity but most of contributions are "in kind" rounds of golf he values at $1,750.

On topic: I got the impression the EU was, in addition to other things, effectively re-writing UK's laws. The effective open borders has resulted in uncontrolled migration and other social problems. But then, I am not a Brit so really don't have a feeling for the impact of the EU on the UK.

And yes, Brexit isn't an American issue. It is best left for the brits to work out whilst America slides into the crapper.

I seriously doubt whether global economic, social, political problems can be dealt with effectively on a national basis. Or, for that matter, on an EU basis.

I am confused. How can the UK leave the EU if they were never a member to begin with. REAL EU members share borders with other EU nations and they must give up their own currency in lieu of the Euro currency.

UK is a group of islands - share no borders with any EU nations. When the UK left the EU, did they leave by themselves or did they take Scotland, Ireland and Wales along with them?

UK still uses its own currency. Never gave up its currency and accepted the Euro.

Are there any other EU countries that use their own currency?

If it is as simple as casting a vote, lets see what happens with other EU countries - like Spain, Portugal, Greece. Interesting!!!

There are many EU countries that use their own currency such as Bulgarian, Croatia, Denmark, Romania etc. And Britain does allow free access to other Europeans, as per EU rules (albeit not being in the Shengen agreement). These two aspects were actually a large part of people's decision to leave; troubles propping up the Euro (eg Greece) with bailouts from other countrues and the huge influx of immigrants (eg Eastern Europeans) and assylum seekers (eg Syrians via Europe). Having said that, it was IMO a very short-sghted and regrettable decision to leave. I'm sure we'll live to regret it.

1 - Denmark - has not introduced the euro, following a rejection by referendum in 2000, but the Danish krone is pegged closely to the euro in ERM II.

2 - UK - As a member of the European Union, the United Kingdom could adopt the euro as its currency.

3 - Sweden - According to the 1995 accession treaty, Sweden is required to join the eurozone and therefore must convert to the euro at some point.

4 - Czech Republic - planned to adopt the euro in 2010, but its government suspended that plan indefinitely in 2005.

5 - Hungary - As a member of the European Union, the long term aim of the Hungarian government may be to replace the forint with the euro but that does not appear to be likely until some time during the 2020s.

6 - Poland - Conditions of Poland's joining the European Union (in May 2004) oblige the country to eventually adopt the euro, though not at any specific date and only after Poland meets the necessary stability criteria. Serious discussions of joining the Eurozone have ensued. However, article 227 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland will need to be amended first, so it seems unlikely that Poland will adopt the euro before 2019.

7 - Bulgaria - gained EU membership in 2007 various dates have been suggested as the expected end of the lev: towards the end of that year 1 January 2012 was a possible date.

8 - Romania's - Convergence Report set a target date of 1 January 2019 for euro adoption.

9 - Croatia - The country joined the European Union on 1 July 2013 and it plans to join the European Monetary System. Kuna is expected to be replaced by the euro within two or three years after joining the European Union.

Very different reasons for each country NOT using the Euro currency. These are the only (9) countries that do not use the EURO yet. The European Union (EU) comprises 28 member states.

The British Empire has always been and continues to be evil. However, they have never been stupid. They know exactly what they are doing and there is a reason why they are leaving the EU now.

The Brexit was a tactical move of Cameron, which now backfired badly.
The whole crazy stuff you heard for the last few month is just the shouting of the two parties fighting over the Brexit.

The problem is, that there is absolutely no benefit for leaving the EU.

The refugees will still enter the UK, and Britain if they still want to do business with the EU, they will have sign a trade agreement which will not be any different to what is implemented now with the EU.

Plus the UK got so many perks for joining the EU, which now are void.

Actually nothing will change for the EU, except and hopefully they will get faster, effective and smarter in running the EU government.

That the EU wants to change UK law is pro BREXIT propaganda.

I recommend to read the constitution and regulation of the EU. It is very clear how much power (or the lack of) the EU really has.
Plus many of the laws are decided by votes by UK members of the EU, as well.

So let's not get into the crazy BREXIT argument again.

Plus, the referendum is not legally binding. It has an advisory status, the parliament must decide to put it in place. And it looks like they are finally realizing, what they did...and preparing a second referendum for staying in.

I'd like the UK to stay. Europe has this great feeling of togetherness and it is unpresidented in the world. It would be sad to lose that amazing progress in international and continental relationship.

Oh dear. If that happened and they were to say 'Thanks for the advitice, but we know what's best for you, that, for the world looking on, would consign Britain to the tin pot democracty pile.

When they stormed Iraq, bombing hospitals, women and babies, the world said it was'nt wise and Britain said ''We're in this for the long haul and for the people''

When they interfered in Libya and took the country from major African superpower to rubble in a matter of months and the world asked what had been done, Britain said ''We're in this for the long haul, for the people''

When it began handing it's empire away to people like Idi Amin and Banda and the world asked why they said ''For the long haul, for the people''

Now, After leaving the EU and the pound goes down 10c against the dollar they're saying ''F@@k that for the long haul, F@@k the people'' I've just lost £3.

@Napoleon, Uk has not left the EU yet, as Dudeson's pointed out the referendum is not final and the parliament must now vote to officially leave. Most of UK parliament members are not in favor of leaving but will probably follow the will of the people and then the long process of negotiating an exit will begin. Will not be good for UK or EU no matter how you look at it. Now that they have voted to leave seems many are having second thoughts.
