Cf the article: I think SOME of the leftist ideals were okay, but I'm not defending the way anything was actually carried out.

there are still a lot of victims and perpetrators of violence alive, mostly in their 60s and early 70s. In many cases, including the prez, it's not clear who is what. A time of chaos and factions competing to be the most 'red'. Mass hysteria is a dangerous thing.

As for the bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki, use of one bomb would probably been sufficient to get the Japs to surrender, and many of the victims were not directly involved in the war. However, Japan was a cruel, cruel empire that had to be stopped using any means necessary.

Note that a lot of the comments on the China News article are still "awaiting moderation" after several hours.
