Can anybody recommend a place with a good selection of contact lenses and reasonable prices?
Incidentally, the kind I'm looking for are Focus Night & Day, so if anyone has seen those for sale, could you give me a heads up? (They had them in Shanghai).
I use the same lenses, but have never seen them in Kunming. On my way here from Australia last August I stopped off in Bangkok to get some dental work done and whilst there picked up a years supply of the night and day lenses at a very good price. I can only advise that you either arrange for your Shanghai optometrist to post you a few boxes or use the daily lenses you can get here. If this isn't possible let me know, I can arrange for lenses to be sent out from Sydney, but this takes at least 2-3 weeks and isn't cheap. Good luck atomic.
Thanks, Atomic. Don't suppose you've retained an address for the place in Bangkok? Could probably get my Thai friend to post some to me if I could tell him where to go.
The optometrist from which I purchased the lenses is located on the ground floor of the of the big air conditioned shopping centre near the national stadium sky train station. There are several optometrist, but he was the only one selling the night and day lenses. If memory serves it was 22,000 baht for a box of six lenses (3 months). atomic
I believe the shopping centre is called MBK or Mah Boon Krong for your reference.
@Atomic
Seriously hope that 22,000 baht was a typo. 2,200 is more in line w/ prices in Shanghai, and on the high end of U.S. prices.
Thanks for the info.
MBK that's right. Probably was 2200 baht. I am sure that they were much cheaper than back home. Just get your friend to check the price before buying anything, if you can get them cheaper still from the U.S. then perhaps organising them to be sent from there is your best bet.
If you know your exact prescription and have an international credit card, Lenscrafters in Hong Kong will post contact lenses by Speedpost/EMS free of charge. Usually takes 2-4 days. I've done this a few times but don't have their details with me. Google "lenscrafters hong kong" and you may get lucky.
Thought I should add that you probably need to order at least 6 months for them to do the free EMS. They also seem to be cheaper than the equivalent in the mainland.
Ah, this sounds like a good option. Thanks, Greg. Will post details if I find them out...
