Your overall China/Kunming experience?

@OHW
Same for you not everyone believes in the fairytale land, and the propaganda, others believe in.

Also please let me know what I should dismiss as bad and not nice, and what I should embrace as wonderful culture stuff.

It would help a lot of people to find a guideline to have permission by other foreigners, to live and stay in China.

I am not on a crusade, I am not trying to tell you what to do. I just tell people about my observations and experiences and I have a lot of Chinese friends and I tell you what they think about China and what they want and need. And it is not even close to what you and other think about China. So, you should really get closer to the pulse of 'REAL' Chinese culture.

Just a recommendation. You don't have to, of course, but your arguments, although helpful in foreign forums, but talking with Chinese, they may get you a raised eyebrow.

What should you embrace as wonderful? Well, if you constantly feel physically threatened, there isn't much you're going to be able to enjoy I guess. Mixian must taste even worse if you're looking over your shoulders.

Your life sounds like Mad Mad Fury Road and your only instinct is survival. Well, just keep on surviving is my best advice!

@OHW i don't believe you don't remember the last time you heard spitting! I don't even have to go out to hear a chorus of it everyday, just peacefuly working away and I'll hear someone walking by hocking up even though I'm 5 floors up.

As for the violence in China I have to say here is pretty peaceful most of the time. Now if you compare it to England at about pub closing time you'd think China was a monastery. Want to see regular violence and uncouth behaviour, become a regular in a pub in London lol.

I think I fit a few of HFCAMPO's stereotype list :(

I just did an experiment. I did a search for "spitting" on the Forum section and 4 pages of threads came up in the results. Spitting has been mentioned in 4 pages of different threads, including one thread exclusively devoted to spitting. Maybe that's normal. I don't know. Some threads date back like 6 years. Anyway, have fun kids!

Dudeson, it seems like you've gone past the point of no return where you're not going to be able to enjoy anything about living here. But I'll stop short of recommending that you leave.

One-Hit Wonder, might one say, that posters here are rather obsessed with spitting?

One-Hit Wonder (89 posts) • 0

Sorry mickey, I don't want to associate with you. Hope you understand.

One-Hit Wonder, because someone figured out that you are really HFCAMPO? I understand.

@OHW
So in short I have to get your idea of China? Otherwise I am an a**hole and don't deserve to share this heaven; called China with you.

Just say it, it saves us a lot of time beating around the bush. oops,s orry I forgot, there is no violence in China...correction...."stroking around the bush!"

You are distorting and changing things I say. I am watching out, because China is not as safe as you [plural] think, the governemt agrees, locals agree, Chinese people agree, the international community agrees[there is a travel warning on the German embassy website-keep in mind that Germany is China's amost favourite buddy].

So, except a few foreigners who try to tell themselves otherwise, get mad and upset, for disagreeing, with the very people and culture they try to protect. Of which they will never be part of [by proxy], or being accepted and most importantly, will never want to be 100% part of..... -Are telling other foreigners, who they are and who they should be?

Come on, you love China, so do I ! But not for the things you want me to love it for. Can't we just love it for different reasons, like the color blue, or butterflies, sandwiches....etc?

I am not living out or on 'ShenQiLu",lol ... btw. you watch far too many movies, but I have been cowardly attacked, without warning and twice people jumping up on me from behind. That happens more than once, and you change your habits, a bit...

But I am not paranoid like a chicken, looking for assailants left and right. But I am careful, and that my friend is a standard, travel advice you will get from all embassies and people, ever maneged to travel.

But that said, if I eat mixian looking over my shoulder, I at least don't have to smell the cancer in a bowl, called mixian....So I will give it a try tomorrow, since there is nothing else in this town to eat, anyway. lol

So, please don't twist my words, maybe watch less movies, accept that people may have different opinions, and if you want to defend and protect a culture, you should live it, 100%, and not just cherrypich what helps your needs, or makes you feel comfy.

Again,... go in a temple, a farm, volunteer in some crappy a** mountain village, get rid of your healthcoverage, suport a whole [poor] family on you tiny salary and pray that nobody around you will get sick. Buy a house and car, thanks to huge social pressure, that of course isn't real and I just made it up, etc.... And that stuck for life....but no! you said e all have a choice, right?

And listen to people coming from other places telling you, how great it is here, no tax for them, cheap this and cheap that, the wonderful safe everything, and the way people are so nice all the time, and how everything is just a huge cultural-happiness-gangbang.

Imagine how [what is it 70% of the population?] of the lower middle class, and poor folks, hear this. That all those things are cute, and beautiful cultural gimmicks.

So, I guess the reason I was beaten up was because, of people trying to pretend to be a cultural-apnoe-diver, so deep into the fake culture, that even Chinese, shake their heads in disbelieve.

So thanks, for you guys getting me a**whipped by being fals prophets. ;)

"Dudeson, it seems like you've gone past the point of no return where you're not going to be able to enjoy anything about living here. But I'll stop short of recommending that you leave."

How narrowminded and narcissit must one be to say something liek that. My dear friend, there are a lot of people on this planet and they all have different ideas and thoughts and like different things for different reasons.

Disagreement and living in misery is not the same thing.

So what I hate KUNMING [only], food. I don't think China is safe, food, products and violence. and that Chinese made products are low quality. And at last, that [many] Chinese have bad manners [spitting, pooping, picking noses, andnot washing their hands after taking a sh*t].

Really, that is what is an indication for a miserable, unhappy, unfulfilled life in China.

I dare you, tell my exact words above [I know using my words only, will be a challenge, since you like twisting them a little] but go to your Chinese friends [if you have them] or partner, and ask them if that is completely anti China, or mean, or not something they also struggle, or agree with......Try and see what the real people say.

Most Chinese will be telling you, that they have problems with it, too. Unless you ask them while walking out of a crapper, picking their noses, spitting and building a Chinese mixian car.
