Alien (3819 posts) • 0

On balance, positive. 14 years in Mainland China, 12&1/2 in Kunming. No, I do not like everything, here or anywhere, and don't expect to.

I studied and applied the rules if the attraction law. funny thing is that, most of the attacks happened when i was actively practicing it.
plus i didn't sit down at home, visualizing to get beaten up.

i don't think it works like that. so all the people who talk out of their asses, because the just watched THE SECRET should probably be quiet.

plus, do you have any idea how terrible that sounds, to blame the urge for violence and aggression of a country on a person.
and by the law of attraction you shouldn't, i could blame you for laying the negativity and fault on me.

i wonder if you would tell the same, to a rape victim...."Nah, honey you asked for it."

THIS IS YOUR WAY OF JUSTIFYING BEING IN A CRUEL PLACE.

but thats fine. I never got injured, not a scratch....hm, lawyers of attraction, now how do you riddle me that.
or how do you explain an infant getting shot or having cancer? they are angry and bitter? they are just atracting all that negativity in those few month of their lives.

you guys should get away from your computers. see reality. meet people or read up on the movie you are reffering to.

i have been attacket about 7 or 8 times in 15years in china. that would be once every two years. but being in a country where aggression and violence is the only way to solve a problem, i blame it on mianzi, education and upbringing.

seeing mom and dad throwing tantrums for the tiniest of issues, of course never teaches you how to resolve an issue, peacefully. people in china feeling entitled to everything. when they don't get it...violence & aggression is justified.

have you check the kunming news today? how many people have been beaten today. just watch the videos (recorded incidents) of today. so imagine the amount that is not recorded.
a lot is chinese on chinese....but imagine with all the hatred against foreigners, that tolerance level is low.

also keep in mind that police won't report a foreigner bashing, in fear of diplomatic problem. All my beating, police didn't report or registered.

i am not angry and bitter. The people knowing me,would testify that at any time. and you who insult me by blaming it on me, should really learn manners and read a bit more into it . than refer to a 60min money making movie about a very complex system, in which i believe too.

it is been critized for it.

violence is a real problem in china, and that has nothing to do with attracting it but with its society. period.
it's not about luck but about exposure.

you are being out more, chnces are higher to get a**whipped...and i am still out everyday.

i believe in china's resillience to better itself. i don't hold grudges or blame.

but violence, it is encouraged by the lack of punishment and law enforcement. and thats why its so normal in china...at least rage and aggression.

I've lived in China 14 years. Some things are frustrating but, overall, I find it a fascinating and pleasant place to be. In that time I think I've seen actual "violence" 3-4 times, never to me. I simply can't correlate the China I see and experience every day with that outlined by some others on this forum.

My overall experience is positive. But like others point it is not without some extreme sacrifices on my part. This is probably true for most people.

Bottom line, the basic Chinese person has no self respect or pride. This is the failing of their culture. They basically care only for themselves which carries over to their manners and total lack of hygiene.
I have placed myself in such a way that I can insulate myself from the masses pretty well. I have a select group of wonderful Chinese friends, and other that that I could give 2 shakes for the others. They leave me alone and I'm good to go.

Being able to spit food out on the floor in a restaurant actually feels quite good once you loose the inhibition. Sometimes it's a welcome necessity. Giving your throat a good load clear out onto the road in front of passersby may give you a sense of freedom if not belonging. Confidently arguing over price and quality always gives you a feeling of pride and authority when you know that they know they are trying to rip you off, as is the norm and everyone leaves happy. These things make you fit in when you just, let go. And, surley enough before you know it you are shouting at the top of your voice in a restaurant for the waitress to come over to fill up your free tea. You start saying xie xie ga. Hell, I even pull my tshirt half way up my body when I get hot or sit with one trouser leg up to my knee. I don't know why, it just feels good.
If you can't beat 'em

Lots of unkind comments in here. Total lack of hygiene? Violent? No manners? Pooping in restaurants?

Are all of you from lily-white, gated communities in American suburbs or something?

mickeyh (119 posts) • 0

I am sorry: I do not mean to be unkind to anyone. I guess it just rubs me the wrong way when people say such ugly, mean things about the Chinese, or about any group of people.

goldie122 (645 posts) • 0

Please. We could talk positive and negative about people from every country. I wouldn't take it personally when people say bad things about Americans, because they would probably be true. Of course not all Chinese have these bad habits but if it's enough of them that we can see it daily, then it's a problem to me.

mickeyh (119 posts) • 0

That's the thing: I do not see it daily. The only people who seem to be having such a miserable time in China, are the ones who seem to have all of these assumptions about China, and come here to whine and complain about it and insult it.
