@Alien I can officially tell you I take the middle ground. There is loads I like about China and there is also plenty I don't like about China. But I also know that wherever I happened to be I'd probably have the same kind of standing, just different issues. Hell even back in my home town of London there's plenty I like/dislike, nowhere is going to ever be a perfect haven. I'm happy in Kunming so I stay.
GoKunming for me is just a place to moan about the bad stuff here or have a laugh along with people experiencing the same issues. I'm sure the stuff said is not people's 100% experience, just stand out issues that happen every now and then.
Oh GoKunming is also useful for some info once in a while lol.
@Dazzer redjon and Napoleon
Yep, you got it!....
I hoped that my more mellow tone after a rant would be noticed, but nope, not really.
Yes, everything has it's center and we all mostly circle around that.
I know it's not all bad, I know it's not all good.
But I really don't like people forcing me [out of their own selfishness] to believe in something. If you like or dislike something, it's is o.k. with me. but I don't like overexaggeration [not even my own].
The Chinese friends I have make up for all the bad stuff here, anyway....tenfold.
But still not all cultural China stuff is actual cultural China stuff. It's somewhere between mainland, Taiwan, HK and Singapore.
Since they are all Chinese.
So especially Chinese [after socialism] is trying to find an identity, and that is normal, happened to all ex-socialist states, actually still happening in Russia.
So it's all good!
@vicar I'm gearing up for it buddy, no sweat. Hard to break oneself away from the lofty discourse here but just like an alcoholic in the white knuckle phase of his sobriety I'll do it and stick to it. Am Touched you noticed though.
Why does every second comment have to be a sweeping generalization on the entire culture?
Most of life here is just common and unremarkable. The forum is like a cartoon caricature of reality.
And who gives a shit if you think USA is better than China? They're just ... different.
No, USA is definitely s**t, China's just under consideration lol
@One-hit: Your first question above - probably applies to the OP that we began with.
Maybe we've done this thread to death - I hope so.
America is a cultureless cesspit.
It suffers from many of China's problems, all be it in a different way.
It would be a much more cut and dry discussion if it was America under the lens.
The only people who can complain about America are Americans or someone who has spent most of their lives there.
Let's make America great again!
No.
People who've been on the receiving end of American foreign policy and economic sanctions have also got a right to complain.
I know as foreigners we don't matter to the average American, but if anything we have more right to complain.
"I know as foreigners we don't matter to the average American"... What a jerky thing to say... don't speak for a whole group of people which whom you probably know nothing about.
The average American has nothing to do with foreign policy decisions so to put that on 'the people' isn't fair either.
