12345 - Mayor's Hotline

Wow, 107 posts since December 21st of last year. That comes to about 25+ posts per month, or about 1 per day. If I posted at this frequency I would most certainly go get a life outside the forums. Constantly posting on GoK is perhaps an indication of an addiction and should be treated promptly. Users that dont respect other users tend to be banned more frequently than others, I've noticed.

Making a report to the hotline for safety issues etc is important and should be commended. I called once about trees that needed trimming, not only did they do the work quickly but they also called to make sure I was satisfied that the work had been done and in a good way.

For urgent things like broken traffic lights etc call 110

It's better to report things so they can be fixed, most people don't do that so the city government doesn't get the info that those things need to be done.

Good to see that more people are becoming aware of the 12345 hotline and are putting it to good use.

Especially glad to see more people are involved positively about their surroundings and environment and are using the hotline for what it was intended; making Kunming a safer and better place to live in.

You asked about my experience. In brief, about a year ago my wife rang the hoteline a few times to complain that our neighbourhood's running water had been cut off for many months (1-2 hours a day only), unlike all other Kunming neighbourhoods. The hotline said we should resolve it with the nighbourhood leaders. They in turn said it was the water company's fault. The water company said they couldn't pump water to our elevation because the government had reduced the water pressure. After going round that little circle 2-3 times, we just gave up and prayed for rain. I'm glad others have had more success with the hotline. We assumed it was yet another "all talk, no action" government gimmick. Maybe they take foreigners' complaints more seriously, and yours in particular I suspect. Good on you.

@Tonyaod Wow. I am pretty stunned at how you did that. Taking what I said and then turning it all back around towards me. Point by point. I am floored. I am backing down bro, I am know when I am in the presence of greatness.

I have read about complaints of water rationing time and again on this forum and I really dont know how you guys get by without water for such long periods. In my 12 years I have never experienced water rationing so I consider myself lucky.

Ocean, the situation you described appears very difficult to resolve because it involves so many different agencies and in the end there is not 1 person or entity that can be held accountable.

The big question is - Do you still live in the same residential quarter and will this water problem resurface again this (summer) year? The reason I ask is because I can give you some suggestions but it will take some work on your part. More importantly, this must be done NOW, before the rationing begins.

12345 has always resolved every report we have ever made except one, it has been over 1 year and we are still trying to get it completed so I know that not all problems can be resolved quickly and easily. It is situations like this that I describe that give me the most fullfillment when they are resolved because although many people try, they never get it completed because they are unwilling to take the time to see it through. I am hopefull that our situation will be solved soon, but like I said, it does take some time.

As for the 12345 giving more attention to foreigners that is not the case, as it is my chinese wife who calls or sends the written reports with her information and number. 12345 has no idea she is married to a laowai.

Yes, multiple agencies did not help our situation at all. We think we have now solved it for our own flat now by installing a personal reservoir on the roof! Any reoccurrance of the "1-2 hours of running water a day" fills up our large tub and that lasts us a day or two. As for the rest of the neighbourhood, they seems to prefer the "Chinese shrug" - grin and bear it. Let's hope there's no more drought for a while.
Kudos to your wife for doing the admin. And to you both for your determination to see these things through.

Campo's got a point, although I think one can overdo it. And it is necessary to have water rationing sometimes.
