illegal is illegal. so she will come to kunming with the intention of working, but apply for a student visa since she cant get the correct visa? i dont get how that makes it any better.

She's already in China studying Mandarin on a student visa and she wants to work in Kunming in some capacity over the summer. Plenty of people do that in China. This is not some ruse to beat the system. It's just a way to experience China in a different capacity before she goes back to finish her last year of university.

Petemarks did say get paid 'if possible' and looking for the experience. Ignore them petemarks. Too many paranoid people living in and spreading fear. Good on your girlfriend for coming to China whilst learning Chinese studies. Hope she does well. she'll probably get to know a lot more than some of the commenters on here that have lived here for years

Dear Me!

Good luck to her. Some strange ones floating about these forums. All that 'or she'll be deported' scaremongering.

Chances are she'll get what she's looking for, it's a bit early for people to plan but what she wants should be easy to come by a bit closer to summer time.

There will be a few of summer camp ads here for native English speakers. Most don't seem to care about visa status; all are short term and paid. However, some might not be in Kunming city area, but usually they are two weeks or so long, but she will have to stay at the camp.

If the migrant school up north at the end of Longquan Rd is still around, she help as a volunteer.

Laofengzi is right. Don't be mad with the truth. That being said. There are plenty of training centers that don't give a damn about what type of visa you have. If you're white your right (ha ha). Some training centers even ask for females only. Don't expect anyone here to help your girlfriend find work illegally. That's on you and her. She should have no problem getting something. Good Luck!

Actually, the summer camps probably don't care about native speakers, as my student German roommate worked at one.

As I understand it (having gone to a Chinese uni) there is a certain amount of hours that foreign students can work on their visas.

The school, MUST be a Chinese government school (sounds like it is) and will issue a permittance document for work upon application by the student. These are most likely to be granted in the summer holidays.

Now, unless things have changed, should she do that....

She can then come to Kunming and take Laofengzi's summer teaching job without fear of being sent to the Gulags.

@ Napoleon, you heard what the law states. Now please kindly remind me what country we are in? Every Expat that lives in china has tried that route, its been posted on pretty much every forum. Guess how many actually got clearance? None!

I dont teach, im not qualified to be a teacher.

If i remember correctly a bunch of white chicks got fined and deported from kunming for working a Auto show that was advertised in gokunmings very own classifieds. Nothing like a 2 year ban and a fat fee.

Also i know a few people that frequent these types of forums and post fake job ads to DOX CV's and passports.

@AlexKMG, do you remember what the name of that migrant school is called? That sounds like a very interesting place to volunteer.
