I have an Italian friend coming visit here. And I'd like to know what kind of places in Yunnan did you find actually interesting (worth)to see? Because I assume you might like different things from Chinese tourists. Thank you in advance.

Everyone visiting Italy makes a round of all the old cathedrals. Show him the monasteries, both Buddhist and Tao.

don't take him to the fake "old" villages or historical sites. Try to find some authentic ones, and try to visit some monasteries and markets. I guess it's too cold for Zhongdian, so I recommend the rice terraces.

What's this with taking an Italian half way across the world to gawp at monasteries and cathedrals?

Perhaps you would imagine an Arab would come here to see the Gobi desert?

Would an American come to China for a McDonalds?

Travelling is about doing different things, things different to back home. At least it is for me. Can't imagine an Italian being impressed by any cathedral here, when better ones are 10 a penny back home. Why not take him for a fruit pizza afterwards?

Go to Trip Advisor and choose a few things in their top 10 for Yunnan. Those things will be why the rest of the world come to Yunnan, I'd imagine an Italian would too.

@Napoleon haha yeah I think the same way. Should show him things are very different from home. He is from Como Italy. Seems there are enough beautiful mountains and lakes there.. But I'm thinking Yuanyang Terrace and Stone Forests,..or the hotspring place. Anyone been to those places and did you like it there?

Yuanyang is best in Jan and Feb when the terraces are flooded and before planting starts.

Early morning is best as in the afternoon the view gets hazy from waste vegetation being burned.
