I would like to stay at a monastery or two while traveling through Yunnan. Most seem to be open to visitors only during the daytime. Does anyone know otherwise?

You are right, most of the monasteries are not open to host guests. However, in DaLi you can stay at WuWeiSi, where you can find a real WuShu master and his disciples. As you would expect, life there can be quite demanding, but the food is good, the is training excellent and the atmosphere is just great. Have a look for yourself,- almost anybody in DaLi can tell you where WuWeiSi is and how to get there.
Dear LaoBenDan, thank you for the excellent info. Do you happen to have any contact info for WuWeiSi - or perhaps a contact that might have a contact? I'd love to study at the monastery for a month this spring. Thanks!
Hi SweetLioness and all the others : If you come to WuWeiSi in DaLi and carry a sleeping bag, you don't need to register, or make a reservation. Otherwise send an email to 'bakery88.dali (at) gmail.com' and we will see what we can do for you.
