POLICE CLEARANCE

These sort of things don't usually have an expirations date, as they are only able to report on your status on the day of issue of the certificate. The day after issue you could have commuted a crime.
They are usually good for 6 months, as most agencies demand a certificate of less than 6 months old.

Step 2 - PSB - 7th floor - Must call in advance as the security doors are closed so call this number when you get there - 6312-7542

Easy and simple process -

a - Original passport and copies of all visas and entry stamps. Foreign travel (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, etc.) visas are not required.

b - Original + copy of current police registration.

c - 2 Passport photos - I used the same ones they give me when I go renew my RP.

d - Fill out a form and turn in all copies. The passport and original registration will be returned to you before you leave.

This certificate is only for Kunming. I own a home in Dali so I will have to go to Dali to get another certificate for my time in Dali. Same for any other city or province you may have lived in before.

No need for marrige certificates or any other documents. The entire process took 15 minutes. They will call me when the certificate is ready for pickup.

I am reporting factual information here - no opinions, no assumptions, no guesses like some other posters. Please wait until I have the certificate in hand and I will answer any questions you may have AFTER I receive my certificate.

I can concur with the above apart from I got mine at the notary office, there is obviously more ways to skin this cat.

I do not ASSume so I ask direct questions.

So what you are telling us is that you got a crimminal background check from a notary office, not from PSB. Is this what you are saying? Where (what province/city) did you do this? When?

I got a fingerprint card from the notary office. PSB will give me the crimminal background check. Please explain so other forum members are NOT confused as I am right now.

Here's what I posted in my previous post:

Here is how I did it in the past:

I went to the Gong Zheng Chu (公正处) along with my passport, my last registration of address certificate, 300ish RMB and a completed form that I got from the counter. (I may have needed 2 passport photos - can't remember)

I had to pay in advance and they mentioned there was a risk that if I hadn't lived at any address previous address in that city for more than a year that they couldn't complete the process and the certificate wouldn't be forthcoming.

The certificate comes in 2 languages as standard, some languages require an added fee but English, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and Korean do not.

The certificate requires 2 weeks to process, upon which you have to pick it up from the office or request it forwarded to you in another city.

The process has to be done in person and I have no idea how it could be done from outside China.

I should point out that I haven't had to do this in Kunming yet so all this experience is from offices in other cities I have lived.

Except last month I did do this procedure in Yunnan and did exactly what I did in Hubei and Fujian, as I outlined above. I first completed this procedure in 2012 for an Angolan visa, then twice more this past summer, and apart from the price have noticed no difference in the procedure.

I am sitting 2 feet away from the actual certificate. No one is doubting you, saying that you are wrong - You seem to be Arse-umming that. I'm saying I did what you did, however at the notary office, not the PSB, I'm not saying you can't, I'm saying I just repeated the procedure I had done in the past.

You don't mind do you?

Are you still confused or are we clear now? I'm a little confused over this fascination with arses you seem to have developed.

No, of course I do not mind. I am trying to clarify this topic as many people have questions and more and more people need this document. I want to be very clear that unless the procedures you describe are also done in Kunming then your post is only confusing people rather than clarifying the already vague procedures.

I am just a bit confused as a notary can NOT issue any type of documents. A notary is nothing more than a paper that says the person is the same person signing a document. Here in China a notary can also translate documents issued by other agencies but it can not issue any documents.

PSB and some police stations are the only agencies that can issue a crimminal background check. Unless the notary you went to is in the police station or in PSB and they notarized the document issued by the police. What I believe is that the notary acts as the middleman and goes to PSB or the police and gets the report from them and then in turn gives it to you. Here in Kunming, the notary asks for a fee but PSB does not - the service is FREE.

In any case, I am asking for specifics as the purpose of this thread is to inform others of how to obtain a crimminal background check here in Kunming. It would be good to know if Kunming can also do the same thing you have done in the past in other cities.

If the method you mentioned can NOT be done here in Kunming than it really has no significance for this thread as this is for those trying to obtain a certificate here in Kunming, NOT Hubei or Fujian.

If in fact a notary can issue this certificate as you stated here in Kunming then please do tell and share the specific information with the rest of us.

Yes, I got this in Kunming around 5 weeks ago.
I paid 300 something RMB for the document and I am guessing, as you said, the notary did the leg work. Although the documents are signed by the notary office, as is the translation.
I didn't know the PSB could do this as when I asked my local police station years ago (not in Kunming) they directed me to the notary office. During the process I never had to give my fingerprints for anything. As I need to use these docs internationally I needed them done in English.

What you are saying is useful as if it was coming out of my own pocket and was to be used locally I would be down the PSB queuing with you for the free one. I didn't know about that and now do.

Shall we put this to bed now?
