POLICE CLEARANCE

From the CIC website

www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/index.asp

Police certificates (police checks)
You may need a criminal and security check (police certificate) if you are coming to Canada as a:

live-in caregiver,
tourist,
student or
temporary worker.
When you apply to become a permanent resident, you must get a police certificate.

We use police certificates to find out if you have a criminal record. They help visa officers make sure you are not a security risk to Canada.

Find out how to get a police certificate.

Learn more about police certificates.

@Campo

Returning to your home country?? Which countries?? USA??

Permanent residents only?, not citizens??

You quoted "Since this certificate is now required to get some jobs in China as well as when returning to your home country it should not be too difficult to make up a story to get it."

Mike - I have no intentions of returning to the US but one never knows what will happen in the future. As the entire world is getting so sick (No-Fly List) and Big Brother is everywhere, I can foresee that ALL (citizens + residents) people who have been abroad for a lengthy period of time will eventually have to prove that they were GOOD before they return to their home country. I am merely anticipating things to come.

I rather go through this headache while I am in China rather than trying to do it after I return like the poor guy who is seeking answers on this thread - Better Safe than Sorry.

Is the OP a citizen (Canadian) or a resident (Chinese)?

@ Campo
You had me worrying about the hassle this involves, also the pace and broadness in which this security madness is developing in our home countries( not that imply you're a "mercan")

I agree that the world is becoming a 1984 scenario; how rapidly???

Same question from me: Is the OP a citizen (Canadian) or a resident (Chinese)?

Big brother in action, and failing.
A worrying trend in the UK is that it is illegal for landlords to rent a property to illegal immigrants. Big fines/gaol time. As a result many landlords will not let property to people unless they can see their passport.
However, many people in the UK do not have a passport. This is mostly people who are poor, and more likely to be at risk of homelessness. These people without passports are being refused rental accommodation because agents have blanket rules.

Has anybody applied for a Kunming police certificate from another country? If so, how is it done? How long did it take? Thank you.

I believe if you're in another country, you'd have to provide the third party person with a Power of Attorney.

As for the finger printing - if the local government requires that, I'd imagine it's best to get the Chinese consulate's advice. Maybe they will approve your fingerprints done by the local police to be used in China? Just don't forget to get their stamp!

This topic goes by many names and there are several threads devoted to this same topic. I will attempt to consolidate them to make it easier for those interested in this topic in the future.

Crimminal Background Check While Living in China.

www.gokunming.com/en/forums/thread/8748/criminal_record_check

www.gokunming.com/en/forums/thread/11064/fingerprints

www.gokunming.com/[...] - If you notice, the address I posted below is different than the address listed here. This is because I am a Marine and I believe in KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid - The address I listed is much easier to find than this address - either way - they are in the same bldg and you can enter from either door.

I am personally going through this process right now and I will report all my findings here. I have been living in China for more than 12 years and I am on my third passport so I want to get this done now - Better safe than sorry!

Step 1 - Fingerprints - There are 2 different offices located in the same bldg (7 + 9 floors) that do the fingerprint card. The bldg is called the HEB Tower (Hua Er Bei) and is located on the corner of Huguo Road + Baoshan Street. The address is 215 Baoshan Street. This is the same bldg you go to when you buy a house in Kunming.

7 Floor - Guo Xin Notary - 6310-5998 -

9 Floor - Ming Xin Notary - 6331-9333 - I think this office is better than Guo Xin because the fingerprint cards are in both english and chinese. Guo Xin only has chinese and you must pay more for english.

Price: 150 RMB for chinese notary - 205 RMB for Chinese + English Notary - 10 RMB for an additional copy.

This is just a notary of a fingerprint card so there is no need to pay more for english. The fingerprint card is already in BOTH english and chinese. The fingerprint card is required for the 2nd step which is getting the background check. This process takes about 30 minutes and you must return in 1 hour to receive your documents.

Need: Original passport and original (most recent) police registration with current address.

Working Hours: 0900 - 1200 + 1300 - 1700

Step 2 - PSB - 7th Floor - Stay tuned and I will report the PSB findings tomorrow so please be patient and do not fill this thread with ridiculous questions.
