Healthcare questions thread

What is so hard to understand - when someone posts info here about themselves they are advertising themselves or their services.

Yes, when I gave someone the link of my website, I was promoting (advertising) myself. However, as Jareth will tell you, I did not ask for any money and he allowed me to do this because I was not running a business or a travel agency. I just provided info to help others (Altruistic act).

Find me a single person who was ever asked for money - None

But many can tell you that I made travel itineraries, replied to hundreds of emails, answered phone calls from Yunnan as well as abroad, and gave travel info to help anyone who asked.

I remember a person who runs a school asked me if they can put my picture at their school - They asked me directly and I said YES because I wanted to help them out.

Another person deceitfuly asked me to take a pciture with them. Then I see my picture in their school as though I was one of their teachers - I said NO way - take it down.

So I guess you are the only altruistic one. Though if there were another HFCAMPO on this forum, he would surely accuse you of harvesting user data to sell to advertisers or the UN.

Okay, now let's get back to topic:

OP, many foreigners move here without making preparations for possible medical emergencies, or even general healthcare. What do you think foreigners should do here BEFORE they get sick?

This could include insurance, learning about nearby hospitals, or emergency contact info in your wallet.

What do you think?

Second question:

If a foreigner has a medical emergency in Kunming, what should he do? Should he simply call an ambulance and go wherever it takes him? Should he direct the ambulance to a particular hospital?

The tremendous effort involved in putting together the whole notion is only justified in a tiny percentage of cases and if you take a very particular worldview, and 95% of the time it cannot be linked to anything tangible. In other words, you're being had.

I agree, if you put all the money you spend on insurance in the bank throughout your lifetime one can have a nice nest egg from the money that was freely given away.

Ask the people after Katrina - That is one Tooth Fairy that never came - The tooth Fairy said, your house was flooded, it was not destroyed by the Hurricane so you don't get squat - thanks for all the premiums you paid us.

I agree to a point. But if you needed casevac home, that is very expensive.
On the flip side of things. Other than what one might call extreme surgery (e.g. brain and major heart surgery), the Chinese specialists are not that far behind treatment you might find back home, away from the major centres of excellence.
