I just asked Paul, and he says it'll be about two more weeks to complete the renovation and reopen. I'll remind him to announce it here when he does.

Don't bother. This guy has the most rip off food prices in Kunming.
Good thing there are tons of shops in Kunming catering to our food needs...
Oh, wait
Convenience comes with a price tag. I would much rather pay a few kuai extra for the small number of imported staple items I use than endure the hell that is Carrefour or Metro. I also order a lot of imported dry goods on Taobao, but sometimes you can't beat Paul's for getting what you need quickly and with friendly service.
I appreciate the information. Sorry to misname the place.
I agree with Dan. Convenience is king and Uncle Paul offers it. By the way, some staples like Yunnan coffee, and cheese can now be bought at his cookshop a few doors up towards the school.
Dan(is)TheMan and I agree Paul's prices may not be the cheapest in the world but certainly not a ripoff. He sets his prices and if enough people are willing to buy his stuff and he stays in business, I'd say his prices are right. Doing without is always a choice.
Is there another place where one can get similar items for a cheaper price? Where exactly? Pop Tarts, 3 Musketeers, Corn Chips?
bucko is a long time GoK contributor So I'll save my snarky remarks. But in Paul's defense, if it's such a rip off, can't imagine how they stayed in business for So long. If anything, he is charging market price. Try setting up an import business and you'll soon realize How much overhead you'd have to cover.
And the rent can't be cheap either.
Those who were 'round when J.C had his moment of doubt and pain, and watched with glee while kings and queens fought for ten decades
for the gods they made, can say that these Pauls are now something like 老字号 - they could basically be supported for the fact they even stood there so long.
And not too long ago there were no olives, butter, anchovies, capres, basil and that stuff in Yunnan. Except at Pauls. It was an oasis in the mixian madness.
Its like a Ricks Cafe in Casablanca and Paul is the Yunnan Bogart.
