GPS is built into the number plate????
what?
I thought
they just give reg number plates with GPS u get installed in your bike. .... small black box, I saw guys installing that into the e-bike.
Just they were stupid enough to put it into storage under the seat, which obviously can be easy removed.
They told me I can put it anywhere I decide of course.
The problem is, that I believe it doesn't work when thief takes bike in underground parking area , then he has plenty time to find it and remove it.
of course , the plate is the easy one....
sounds like people iz postin without knowing what they are talking
about, aggain. if anyone has had it done, please post the facts, not the alternative facts. dont ask me, ask donald
Lots of misinformation. I've just gone through the process. To register you just need your passport and proof of ownership.
For 150 you get a number plate and a separate gps tracker which consists of 2 separate small black boxes. They install then into your ebike on the road side, one under the seat and one in the front. You also get a registration card with the gps number to give to the police in case of theft. It also has a qr coffee to download an app so you can trace your own bike.
"It also has a qr coffee to download an app so you can trace your own bike."
Would that work to find where you left your bike after too much beer last night?
;-)
@Scottish
Thanks for the info! How are the two boxes (GPS) powered? I think it's just a matter of time and thieves will know how to deal with it.
Yes, they can get around these devices, but it takes time. Thieves don't like that. The amateur thieved like to smash (the bike lock) and grab the bike.
If GPS devices are in locked panels, or under the seat, thieves will need to damage locks and panels to disable the GPS. People who fence stolen bikes don't like that.
If the fence is disabling the bike gps in slow time, without damage, he still risks being caught.
Not perfect, but still a good deterrent, and better than just a lock.
@tigertiger
I agree with you and must admit 150 RMB is not a bad pricetag, since reliable GPS trackers cost a lot more + SIM-card and additional cost. I lost four bikes over the years and will probably give it a try.
The tracker is battery powered. When they install it (superglue) get them to do it in a non obvious place. Mine was glued onto the electronics box and in the front under the speed meter.
@tiger make sure you don't spill the qr coffee, or you'll never get the bike back
Can they install the same device on bicycles? Probably not since most Chinese would feel stupid at registering a bicycle with a plate...
There must be a way because those bikes you see that people are riding all over Kunming all have GPS.
