Magnifico, i disagree with you. apple products are just toys.
for the laptop they have a deal with the processor manufacturer to have an exclusive 3 or 4 month advance in technology and design. they are not better, just a better contract.
those few month are up and every other computer manufacturer will be ahead.
in terms of quality, apple products are substandard.
i have a DYI computer back home, from Digital City from 3years back. made with what the market had to offer, at that time. for 6k RMB and it still kicked every apple computers buttocks, until the last generation was released.
never broke down...runs like a beast and only needs the occasional cleaning.
my wifes 10000RMB imac... broken something about mousepad sensor connect. it messed up just a month after warranty was up. fixing cost 6000!!!!!!!!!!!!RMB.
my i pod never actually worked and in short all my friends have problems with their apple products, latests after warranty is up. which i found out, is designed that way.
apple looks nice, feel like good quality but is complete rubbish due to price / value/ durability.
p.s. all design, media, film, music and animation firms (once being apple territory) are using products far away from apple. they just can.t afford bad quality and bad support.
well, you just took me to I.T. church!
trinkets and gadgets - Sheeple keep NEEDING more and more.
of course some of us have to work and these days work without gadgets is impossible.
@Magnifico
I always make sure I do my advanced graphics editing work on a 12" screen.
There are plenty of cheap, light and thin laptops with good battery life out there that can get you online while you're on the go. Admittedly many people prefer "smart"phones for this task, but I find it difficult to type documents and do spreadsheets on a touchscreen. I absolutely prefer OSX to Windows, but I refuse to drop $1000 on what amounts to a low-end and non user serviceable portable. Naturally everyone's needs will vary, but in my case the thinner and lighter profile did not justify the much higher cost.
I also can't justify paying over $500 for a low-end non user serviceable Mac mini. Realistically you have to pay $700 for the next model up because the basic one is already obsolete. The iMacs also feature soldered in memory with the added inconvenience of not being able to choose your own display. In order to get a desktop machine with the kind of flexibility I'm looking for you need to move up to the Mac Pro, which starts at $3000. Maybe not a bad deal for the hardware in there, but it's way overkill for me.
In the end I just installed OSX on my PC, because as everyone knows Apples are now just regular PCs that come in shiny packaging. It works almost as well as the real deal (the install was probably too advanced for the average user though). I got what I wanted and Apple didn't get any of my money.
I am very familiar with the concept of "planned obsolescence", but since I consider myself an informed consumer I try to avoid falling into that trap.
yeah, i guess you could go through the rest of your life never buying another apple product and living happily ever after.
the ipad is the only apple product i've ever owned. there's a lot of things it doesn't do well. but technology is deliberately annoying that way. there's no one-gadget-does-it-all out there. and there's always something better just around the corner.
and there will always be over-priced products out there because a certain segment of the population with a lot of money likes the smug satisfaction of owning stuff that most other people can't afford. is an audi worth that much more than a volkswagen? apple is an elite status symbol brand.
Still do not have one and I am sure I will NOT be getting any time soon. Useless gadgets for the sheeple.
yeah, you already said that.
I love the fact that you can use your smartphone to study Chinese in the palm of your hand. When I first got here I use to have those awlful palm handheld dictionary combo that died out quickly in a few hours. Thanks to the smartphone I don't have that problem. Have Pleco install and a few other app that are really useful to have. So in my opinion the smarphone, tablets, ipads have been a good tool to have. Grant it, you don't have to buy the most expensive or the latest edition every 6 month.
