My British friend studied in KEATS before and he said the teachers there are pretty good but there is no football field, haha. I have no idea about how the class teaching is organized in the uni. in Yunnan, but before when I was doing my B.A. at BLCU, many of my foreign friends told me that they really enjoyed it. I think the most important thing is what level you would like to reach in terms of your Chinese study. Like someone mentioned above, it does take a lot of time and effort. When I taught Chinese abroad, I met some students who are originally from Wenzhou or dialect-speaking areas in China. From my own experience, it doesn't it easier for them to learn Chinese, especially the Chinese characters. So I think the price matters, the learning result/outcome matters as well.
@Daithi: the phrase also exists vis-a-vis Cantonese speaking Putonghua, according to a Thai language website:
topicstock.pantip.com/library/topicstock/2009/09/K8278243/K8278243.html
but I can't read Thai. Must be all over Chinese-language websites, but I'm not going to search.
I have no problems in pronunciation ^^ I had some chinese lessons when i was little, but forgot everything.. I only know pinyin -_-'.
What I want to reach is a good level in speaking, I care less about writing. Also, my girlfriend is from kunming, but I do speak english with her. I will practice my chinese with her friends... So what I am looking for is a good school/university. Thanks for your reponses, it helps me a lot
I have been studying at Yunnan normal university for two semesters now, and I would say I'm really happy with my progress., The teachers are well organised, plans ahead and are very motivating and positive. You will be required to do alot of homework though, there is for example ting xie every day, (they ask questions which you write the answer to, and say sentences that you write down with characters).
You will also be required to write shorter essays every second week, and have minor exams every second week. (One exams is about two hours, and covers what you've been studying the last two weeks. Including listening and writing).
The structure they use is that in the morning class we learn grammar and other useful things, then in the second class we practise speaking, using the grammar we learnt in the class before.
Until last semester they had this method for 2 levels, (2 and 3, out of totally 4 levels)but they are trying to expand it, I can give an update as soon as my next semester has started.
are you in a degree program, or chinese classes.
Thanks a lot Calle for the feedbacks ! I want to start from level 1 tho. Are you living in campus or did you rent a flat ? and how much is the accomodation?
