We heard from the PSB that only one laowai guy had gotten his ten year family reunion ie Husband visa this year in Kunming. He had applied in 2012 so it seems these visas really take a long time to get and not many people are getting them.

Maybe with this new thing starting Nov. 12th which is Wednesday, China will change things quicker to make it easier. Let's hope.

Sounds good but I think Obama's need to be a foreign policy maven just means China is just scoring and running up coup points.

Thousands of Chinese citizens will be granted extended visas while Chinese study, create regulations, and slowly propagate new visa rules to provincial PSB visa offices.

Past reciprocal international deals have benefited China while creating illusionary, that is effectively nonexistent, benefits to US citizens. Notable are WTO agreements and the existent tax treaty. Obama's claim to billions in trade is true but a disproportionate share will benefit Chinese and China.

Look for 'what happened' articles in about two years as only select US individuals, and very few at that, get ten year visas. These to be followed by news stories of Chinese holders of ten year visas are arrested for spitting and urinating in public coast to coast in the US.

It appears it won't benefit expats living in China. The 10 year visas are only for tourists and businesses. Normally they only get a 1 year visa.

I do not see the benefit of a 10-year tourist visa. I've had 3 since 2006 so technically I would have saved a few bucks, but it's only on this visit that I have an expectation of returning in the future. The real kicker is whether I still have to leave every 90 days to reset the stay clock.
