hello, I want to watch movies on DVD. Does anyone know where to rent movies? All the DVD sold look as if they were filmed inside the movie theater.

Might not be much good to you if not living near by but I know the supermarket near all the restaurants on yinghai rd where it joins dianchi rd has a wide choice of western films on dvd and they're always quality :)

DVDs that were filmed inside the theater are released at the same time as the film. if you wait a couple of months, usually better quality versions come out (check the bottom right corner. if it says DVD-9, it should be a good copy with proper subtitles). depends on the DVD shop as well...

I think a lot of us probably have a lot of DVD'S purchased from the small shops. We watch them once and they sit in a box never to be bought out again! This is pretty wasteful, I just returned a whole box to the DVD shop for free the other day, they can resell 90% of them as I kept them like they keep them in the shop. The guy was pretty happy (free things to sell) and I told him that I basically considered them rentals!

But there isn't a reason (except the minor fact that it's completely illegal) to organise a DVD swap meet for DVDs, just need a location, everyone brings their DVD'S and we swap one-for-one or buy off each other for 2-5 kuai or something. Can reuse our DVD'S then, lowering waste and giving each other free/cheap entertainment!

good idea. are you sure it's illegal? the DVDs are sold legally, aren't they? so why would swapping/selling be illegal?

why not do it on the forum? start a thread and make a list of DVDs you have to offer. and other people can add their DVDs to the list.

Maybe leaving the DVDs in places like Salvadores etc is another option.

If the DVD payments include royalties to the copyright owners then they are legal.
