FAQ Question 1: Do I need a visa to work in China?

Yes, any visa will do, I hope.

Without proper Official Being Papers you can't live anywhere - though you might ask around about the Canadian who stayed in Kunming FOR YEARS after both his visa AND HIS PASSPORT had expired - a local legend, and a true one. When he finally left he crossed three international borders illegally, over a period of about a year, before he decided to go back to Canada.

I guess he might be considered some kind of hero. However, I strongly advise against making such attempts.

Not an agent. I do know them. I have done this for my company for 11 years. It has become more detailed as the government has developed more rules as government always does. Yes, sometimes do it yourself for simple procedures works well. You go to PSB on Tu Dong Lu and ask. I have described the more complex procedures in general in other forums, as have others who have more experience than I.

Where in Kunming can I do visa pictures? Any place in the city centre? How much does it cost this year? Thank you :)

There's a shop outside of the PSB, on the right when facing. I forgot how much.

PSB designated place to the right of the front door on Tuo Dong Lu is the only authorized place as far as I know. 30 to 40 rmb.
