Hello

How would I say "Can you not tie the bag too tight please"? You know when you buy some loose goods at a supermarket they sometimes really make the bag too tight.

cheers

... use scissors at home. No point trying to get around it.

... Unless you take the bag from them and tie it yourself. Definitely the better option.

You can use either:
(xi4)-tie
(shuan1)-tie, fasten

"不用系太紧,谢谢"
bu2 yong4 ji4 tai4 jin3, xie4 xie4.

Please no need to tie the bag too tight.
and here is a character with two sounds..
xi4 is usually used in a noun combination, like: 关系,联系; whereas, ji4 is more seen as a verb
系好鞋带,系好领带
ji4 hao3 xie2 dai4, ji4 hao3 ling3 dai4

please tie your shoelace/(suit) tie

Best to carry your own cloth or other shopping bag and refuse the proffered plastic ones in which things are usually sold.

Supermarket staff will often do the bag tight because they are trained to. We were taught this back home, and mostly it was tape sealed. It is to stop people adding to the bag after it is weighed. But if you ask, or tie it yourself then most staff are too busy to re-tie it.
