Using a US camcorder in China

ekoorbr (50 posts) • 0

I'm planning to buy a camcorder in the US when I go back in January, but I'm worried about two potential problems:

China TVs use a standard called PAL whereas US TVs use something called NTSC.

China uses a different voltage than the US.

Has anyone tried to use a US camcorder in Kunming? Have you had any problems with the PAL/NTSC distinction? (Our TV claims to be able to handle both, but who knows.) Also, did your camcorder's AC unit come equipped to handle 110 and 220 voltage? (Amazingly, none of the camcorder reviews specified this information.)

Thanks,

Ryan

With regard to the voltage issue, your camcorder will have a little transmformer (the "AC Unit") much like your laptop has, or your phone etc. This may be a brick (like computers have) or may be in the form of a larger plug (like most phones). I happen to have to have five of these things beside me for various gizmos and they all state on them an input of "100-240 volts".

So I think you should be fine, but you can also look on that little box before you buy it.
