Genuinely looking forward to the revolutionary changes Philip is going bring about to the Kunming English educational market. Am tired of being undercut by these "unqualified", "untrustworthy" teachers; keeping me from the ¥300/hr tuition fee that I deserve.
Hurry, change can't come soon enough!
If you have a teaching visa, you should know that background criminal checks are already a requirement. If you are teaching without a visa then you are, by definition, a criminal. I'd urge readers to be cautious.
The OP seems to be digging dirt. Been here a year and only just started posting? An alias perhaps.
Disney's Jungle book had a song. 'Trust in Me'.
One would have to wonder about how much "trust" can be placed in a person that does not stay long in one place. Questions also would need to be raised regarding the level of "quality teaching" that can be provided if one is "in and out of Kunmimg for over 15 months".
Sounds like another P.T. Barnum to me. But it's just my opinion
Ah, I wish I had seen this thread before I saw his response to my own tutoring ad. I wouldn't have taken the time to respond.
Beware, y'all, he's trying to weed out the working moms too, apparently.
biz 101, don't rubbish the competition
psychology 101. man walks into a new group and starts dissing people. wtf? the boy has issues.
Ocean said it all.
Since when does unqualified = untrustworthy? I know people without letters after their names who are excellent teachers, and others with diplomas of rare distinction who I wouldn't trust with a goldfish.
I work with many fine teachers, some whom have had little formal teaching experience or qualification but are excellent in the classroom. In my two years here I haven't come across any reported incidences of unprofessional or inappropriate conduct from any teachers, and knowing the attitudes of the parents, I'm sure there would be short shrift given and immediate action taken to any such behaviour ...and before you ask, Phillip, I am a fully qualified primary teacher from the UK.
Toodle, Pip.
@amjec, it's exceptional though. As far as I am aware, China is one of the very few countries where someone without educational or pedagogic qualifications is able to teach in a classroom. This only applies to FTs though, as all Chinese teachers are required to be qualified in education or in the field they are teaching.
You probably have a gift at figuring out which person without any teaching background or qualification can fit in the teaching method of Chinese school, but these levels of requirements would give room to all sorts of applicants in other schools, plus I doubt that's how it would work elsewhere.
There are good English teachers and not-so-good ones here, but how is it that "background criminal checks" and your simple statement that some "should not be trusted with being in the company of your children" (what makes you say this? Has there been some upswing in English teachers with criminal backgrounds messing with young kids?) add up to you being a good one? Please point out a single incident of this great danger you are warning Kunming parents to avoid.
