If it is a special occasion, and you really want it to be special, then there is a need to 'push the boat out'. Yes there are many cheaper hotels, and most will disappoint.

I can see it now, romantic getaway spoiled by (take your pick).
Noisy drunk next door.
Crappy/leaky/fragrant toilet.
Mildew shower spoils the mood.
Sticky carpets.
Broken gym machines, pool closed, etc.
Phone call at 2am for massage.
Puking drunk next door.
Drunk next door with La Duzi.
Drunk next door with noisy massage at 2am.
You get la duzi from eating at the restaurant.
