New music bar Halfway House was filled to capacity last night for an interesting evening of music put on by Kunming indie label Voiceweekly.
Highlights included Zhu Xiaolong's solo performance of traditional Xinjiang music, the spacy rock of One Way, the ambient rock of Beekeeper and Horse and the lo-fi lullabies of Strange Days.
All in all, the evening was quite positive with the audience giving plenty of support to each act, the bar selling out of beer and a bit of spontaneous Buddhist chanting, percussion and didgeridoo after the bulk of the audience left.
Halfway House's sound system was surprisingly good and the vibe among patrons was quite upbeat. Hopefully this was the first of many nights of performances at this new venue.
