A Christmas reminder from the PSB

A few days ago, members of the Kunming Public Security Bureau began handing out copies of a bilingual flyer to businesses frequented by foreigners. On the flyer is a list of snippets from the PRC Constitution, bordered by holly, teddy bears and Santa Claus.

Entitled POLICE NOTICE, the flyer feels like it has the implied heading "In case you forgot we had laws..." Here is the full text:

POLICE NOTICE

According to article 16 of LAW OF THE PEOPOLE'S [sic] REPUBLIC OF CHINA ON ENTRY AND EXIT OF ALIENS, in the case of an alien who fails to abide by Chinese law, his period of stay in China may be shortened or his status of residence in China annulled by the competent authorities of the Chinese government.

Article 15 of LAW OF THE P.R.C ON ADMINISTRATIVE PENALTIES FOR PUBLIC SECURITY provides: an intoxicated person who violates the administration of public security shall be penalized. An intoxicated person who may cause danger to himself or who threatens the safety of others owing to his drunken state shall be restrained until he returns to a sober state.

Article 19 of LAW OF THE P.R.C ON ADMINISTRATIVE PENALTIES FOR PUBLIC SECURITY stipulates: Those who make noise and impair people's daily life, violate the regulations concerning prevention and control of environmental noise pollution, shall be given warning; those who don't stop making noise after receiving warning may be fined from 200 to 500 yuan.

Article 8 of PROVISIONS ON THE ADMINSTRATION OF RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES OF ALIENS WITHIN THE TERRITORY OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA stipulates: Aliens who conduct religious activities within Chinese territory shall abide by Chinese Laws and regulations, shall not establish religious organizations, set up religious offices, sites for religious activities or run religious institutions within Chinese territory, not [sic] may they develop followers, appoint religious personnel or engage in other missionary activities.

According to the Chinese Laws and Regulations, prostituting, whoring, gambling, taking drugs, etc, are strictly forbidden in China. Whoever breaks the above ban shall be penalized severely.

In accordance with the Chinese Law, whoever engage in gang-fighting, instigating quarrels, taking liberties with women or other indecent behavior, shall be penalized.
