- Prostitution raid angers inconvenienced customer
Well perhaps Mr Sichuan People's Congress you'd consider investing in Kunming because the project is worthwhile and you'd get a suitable return on your investment and not because you'll be treated to "entertainment".
Police - don't arrest those pursuing the oldest profession in the world unless you have some way to get them into decent employment. Arrest the party members who think its acceptable to spend tax payers money on "entertainment"!

- Welcome to the new GoKunming.com!
Desktop site is looking great.
However the mobile site still doesn't work for webkit browsers such as iphone safari. I believe a lot of android phones also use webkit browsers. Text is just too small. If you could vary the font size depending on the browser that would be great. At the moment I can either view the really tiny text and strain my eyes or zoom in and have to scroll left and right to read every sentence.

- Kunming takes aim at car horns - again
Limiting the use of horn doesn't really solve the problem. drivers won't really understand why they aren't allowed to use the horn and will feel the new regulations are arbitary. they need to be taught that the horn is NOT a substitute for the brake nor is reaction a substitute for anticipation.
Basically they need to learn a totally different way of driving.

- Kunming addresses taxi shift change troubles
yeah, I was told once before that because that is the busiest time of the day it is preferable that neither of the 2 drivers gets it than one of them makes money instead of the other.
Of course this is nonsense as they could swap shifts at different times (before and after rush hours) on alternate days.

- Kunming addresses taxi shift change troubles
I hope this works. My wife told me she saw some news interviews with drivers who said that they will simply not stop at all, pretending they didn't see people, instead of stopping and then refusing a fare.
We'll see.

Forums > Living in Kunming > iPhone usage in KunMing
I think he means there's no Apple-owned store like the large flagship ones they have in major cities. Its true that the website needs a HK address and HK credit card but there are plenty of authorised apple retailers in Hong Kong and they all sell iphones. There are also plenty of unauthorised retailers selling iphones in the computer markets. Just make sure you get a proper warranty and you'll be fine. They are extremely unlikely to ship to Kunming. If you want to get one in Kunming you can buy from taobao or from places along yuanxi lu but you won't get any kind of warranty.
4500 RMB for what? 3G? 3GS? iphone 4? 8GB? 16gb? 32gb? without some specifics throwing a number out there is fairly pointless.

irrespective of whether this is a scam, a word of warning is advisable about the method the guy suggested for sending him money.
Don't ever send money by Western Union. It can be picked up anywhere in the world by anyone using the beneficiary name and password. You may think you're sending to someone in Shanghai but you have no way of knowing if that's really the case. Bank transfers are always much safer.

Forums > Living in Kunming > How can I get English Language Television TV T.V. ?
It is irrelevant that you are in Kunming on China Telecom. That is actually the point of a VPN. It will create a secure connection between your computer and a server in another country and every website you visit will assume you are in that other country.
Do a google search for VPNs and you'll find loads advertised. Almost all of them have a monthly fee but that's the price you pay for being outside the great firewall.
VPNs that are quite popular are strongvpn, witopia, 12vpn, and many more, just have a look around for a deal that suits you. You will need a foreign credit card to pay for it. There is currently no way to pay for this kind of service with RMB as far as I know.

Plus I would avoid all the usual suspects for satellite TV - we had a system installed a year ago. It stopped working after 6 months and I have no idea why - could be the decryption server, could be the satellite position, who knows? Can I get hold of the company that set it up? Can I f***k?
Stick with the Internet. There's very little that isn't available for download even if you can't stream it but I would recommend streaming through a VPN as mentioned above.
