I think the shortage of water is of usable water. I've heard that Dianchi lake is so bad that they can't even use the water for industrial usage. So I'm guessing, or at least hoping the water they use is ok for grass, but not for drinking... probably sewage water.

haha... the schools "quarantine" is useless. Students regularly leave the school. There's even a path between the bushes where they leave.

Many students have already gone home. Supposedly they're all supposed to come back now and sit around to do nothing.

Plus they let everyone and anyone talk at the main gate.
  • Starbucks to market Yunnan coffee in China outlets

Huh? How is Yunnan distinctive from rural areas in any other country with a centrally controlled economic system(which is pretty much any "modern and developed" country today)? How is The Brother's Jiang expanding everywhere in Yunnan different from Starbucks trying to expand in Yunnan?

Do you think Iowa has lost its distinctness because of all the Mexican and Chinese restaurants that have opened up? Oh wait, even though they almost all serve the same food, and their suppliers are almost all the same... it's so much better because they all have a different name... cripes, it's just marketing.

You can go to any city in Yunnan and you will see the same products being sold in all of them. What does it matter if the name of the store is in Chinese or in English? Does this somehow prevent you from speaking to the people who work there? Does it stop you from taking your time? It's just a marketing symbol, get over it.

many people have personal feelings about language since it's closely tied to culture... the personal attacks are more based on the fantasy that a country has a single culture, and that studying it somehow automatically makes them better, or something... meh, I want some ovaltine.

Transition lenses are glasses that act like sunglasses outside, and regular glasses inside. They adjust the darkness of the lenses to the amount of sunlight.

meh, I basically gave up. Talking to the management of the school is like talking to a brick wall. Maybe I don't understand Chinese "face" well enough, but being a private school that is for teaching foreigners Chinese I feel their willingness to compromise is awful.

At no time did the management of the main campus make any effort to communicate in English while I was there in person when we were discussing this problem. And this is a school who teaches beginner Chinese classes so they obviously have teachers who can speak English well enough to deal with this problem.

In the end all I have to say is stay away from this school. There are plenty of other choices now.
