- Getting Away: Golden Temple
the official name of the bell in Chinese was 乾隆吉祥钟, I doubt it has much to do with any emperors and is probably less than ten years... creative name though

- Review: Lonely Planet Yunnan
There are plenty of places off of the typical Kunming/Dali/Lijiang/Tiger Leaping Gorge/Shangri-La/Xishuangbanna circuit, including Dongchuan, Weishan, Puzhehei, Laojun Shan, Yuanmou, Shaxi, Jianchuan, Liuku and more.
In addition to a profile/interview of Ma Li of Wheatfields, the book also interviews Jeff Fuchs, who we interviewed recently: http://www.gokunming.com/[...]

- Interview: Xiong Chaozhong
@mamasaidknockuout: When I went to do this interview, I spent a few minutes waiting for Xiong in the gym and was asked in English by one of the guys there if I wanted to box... it seems like you can just rock up there if you want.
If you want to get in touch with Tiger/Zovi, there is a contact email at the bottom of this post: http://www.gokunming.com/[...]

- Interview: Xiong Chaozhong
Xiong ended up winning by decision in a fairly close fight.
Xiong is listed as Zhaozhong elsewhere, I asked him whether he pronounced the 朝 in his name Chao or Zhao and he said Chao, saying he'd seen his name romanized as Zhaozhong before and that it was not correct.

It's southwest of the intersection of Qingnian Lu and Huancheng Nan Lu, where the old Luosiwan wholesale market was located, but also including a vast stretch of land stretching southward.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Looking for a romantic spot in Dali
Hi Ed,
If you're thinking about spending time in the old town and don't mind spending a little more than average guesthouse rates, you may want to consider the Bird's Nest Villa, a free-standing Bai courtyard home. More info here: http://www.birdbardali.com/en/villa/

Forums > Living in Kunming > expat population in Kunming
At the risk of offending people by addressing the original topic of this forum thread, I was told last year when registering at my local paichusuo that there are around 14,000 foreigners in Kunming, including people from HK and Taiwan, with Vietnamese being the largest foreign population.
The number seemed a bit big at the time, but now I feel like it might not be too far off.
As for the whole religion cage match going on in this thread, not only is it wildly off-topic, it's not really going anywhere. This forum section exists so that people can share useful information, if you want to get into a flame war, there are plenty of other websites for that.

Forums > Food & Drink > Tempeh?
I'd be pretty surprised if it is available in Kunming, but if anyone can tell me where to buy tempeh I'll be in your debt forever.
Thanks!

Kunming > Sandra's
Since moving up north I must say that Sandra's has been one of the best new additions to my life in Kunming.
Beer selection is good, wine selection is great (been guzzling the Tamaya wines lately), the salads may be the best mix of greens in town right now and the vegetarian lasagna is amazing - especially when Sandra has asparagus.
Big thanks to Sandra, Pierre and Xiao Hua for bringing affordable gourmet Western food to north Kunming!

Kunming > Bamboo Temple
筇竹寺A pleasant temple with amazing arhats, ancient stupas and a good vegetarian restaurant.
This is also a good place to get in shape for biking the hills surrounding Kunming... if you can make it up to Bamboo Temple, you're definitely ready for what lies beyond.

Kunming > Vintage Café
茴转时光Lately I've found Vintage to be much faster than it used to be and the food and drinks have all been quite good... plenty of unique options on the menu too.

Kunming > Dune Cafe
沙丘咖啡馆Nice cozy place to have a coffee and read a book... I enjoy the jazz in the afternoons.
Also, the beer selection has improved dramatically recently. One month ago it was only Harbin, Budweiser and Tsingtao, now there is Duvel, Chimay, BeerLao, Warsteiner, Weihenstephan (Weissbier and Dunkel), plus several others.
