- Thursday, 17th December 2009Ok so the Speakeasy's not what it used to be, i think everyone knows that, but i felt like i had to say something after i saw the last review by Willow33. Of all the real and accurate complaints that one could level against the bar be it management toilets, staff, hygiene, she attacks it for something for which i have never noticed it being guilty of more than any other late night venue in China
To write a scathing review based upon a single visit which she admits lasted "only a few minutes" , of a bar that has been open for almost a decade and has defined many aspects of the existing nightlife scene in kunming I think is both arrogant and ignorant. willow33 should learn more about the town or even country she lives in before making public judgements or maybe she's not here anymore because it rained the first day she arrived and she decided that kunming had shitty weather, i mean, really...!
Speakeasy could be a great venue if they could just get their act together and i think it's sad to see it going down after all these years. - Thursday, 5th November 2009The first and the only time I went to Speakeasy Bar was when my student wanted to show me a nice bar in which you usually can meet foreigners to practice English. But what I saw was really disgusting. Seems like no one really follows the rules here. I saw a teenage girl with a super flat body but in sexy clothes dancing hip hop, the surrounding people were mostly mid-aged guys. They were typically drooling at her; at the tables, you see teenage girls smoking with old men.. The whole scene made me sick. So I just stayed there for a few minutes. Is the bar specializing in prom or something?? I wonder... ...
