    • I agree with WeiXue that Mazagran has a "clean, bright and airy Ikea-like atmosphere", although Ikea conjures up a sterile atmosphere.

      (1) one of the best places to people watch on 文化巷
      (2) the most comfortable, plush seats out of all of the coffee shops in the area (bar none) - perfect when you're sat by the open window looking at the people wandering by
      (3) a no-smoking policy
      (4) lots of plants - big and small - dotted around, including lots of small plants in pots underneath the windows
      (5) free wi-fi
      (6) loyalty scheme (coffee)

I haven't sampled too much of the menu, as for drinks I always stick to iced-Mochas (hence, am not a coffee aficionado), and have only really eaten vegetarian pizza, a humus dish, and a mozzarella / black olive dish on bread (all good).

Unlike the other coffee shops, you don't have to be of dwarf-like proportions to sit down or stand up!

    • The clean, bright and airy Ikea-like atmosphere (no smoking!!!) is what keeps me coming back to Mazagran. As far as the food goes, the pizzas are pretty good (there's one with cranberry that sounds strange, but is surprisingly good), the pumpkin soup is incredible, and there's a cheesy chicken dish (I can't remember the exact name) that is like Chicken Parmesan and a similar one with Eggplant that is delicious. I love that they come as meals with bread and salad. Also, the "Millionaire's Shortbread" is pretty much the best thing ever (a layer of shortbread, caramel, and chocolate).

    • I've only been there once, and while the food was quite good and it's not a bad place to people watch, the decor is absolutely sterile. All they need to do is put something interesting on the walls; maybe a plant or two would help. The 'no alcohol because it's a cafe' doesn't make sense, although if they have other reasons for not having alcohol that's okay with me, I don't have to drink everywhere or always.

    • Actually, it's a great alternative to most places, not just Salvador's. I keep trying different dishes and they're all excellent -- some, would easily win the just-as-mother-made award. The reason, not surprisingly, is that it is family-run with experienced, European-trained cooks. There is no alcohol (because it's a cafe) and no cigarette smoking. The huge open windows enable endless watching of the world going by.

Must remember that this cafe is closed on Mondays.

    • Quiet alternative to Salvadors with good food and great cakes. Best place for people watching on Wenhua Xiang!
